Company History

The amalgamation of Gazankulu  and Lebowa Transport  in 1996 gave birth to Great North Transport (GNT), which is a passenger transport company, providing public transport services within Limpopo and parts of Mpumalanga (Bohlabelo). The company operates purely on business principles and practice as it sources its business partially from government through competitive open market tendering system and Private Sector. GNT is a wholly owned subsidiary of Limpopo Economic Development Enterprise (LEDA) and has been in existence for more than 30 years. Its core mandate is to provide reliable, safe, convenient and comfortable public transport passenger service to the public. GNT is one of the first companies to successful operates negotiated contracts in South Africa. The company has a bus fleet of 501 buses and  trsnsport in excess of 32 million passengers per annum over 279 routes. The company employs 1167 staff members operating in eleven (11) depots across  Six (6) districts municipalities namely; Vhembe, Mopani, Sekhukhune, Waterberg, Capricorn and Ehlanzini (Bohlabela Municipality) respectively. GNT has successfully trained 60 female drivers and 20 internal audit interns in the previous financial years.

Great North Transport is in the process of diversifying its services into long distances in South Africa and Southern African Development Communty(SADC).
